The Rules of Our Classroom

Here are some of the rules to be prepared for in our classroom.
3 years ago I was able to meet Ron Clark, who is a motivational educational speaker. He has a set of 55 Essential Rules, I have chosen 14 of them to incorporate in our classroom. You will learn more of them when you get to school on Wednesday!

#1 When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying "Yes ma'am" of No sir" Just nodding your head is not acceptable.

#2 When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times.
-It is an important way to show respect

#5 If you win or do well at something, do not brag. If you lose, do not show anger. Instead, say something like, "I really enjoyed the competition and I look forward to playing you again" or "Good Game" By saying "You really weren't that good" shows weakness.
-If you are good at something, others will recognize it. There is no need to tell others how talented you are, because by bragging about yourself, you are seen in a negative light, and people won't care about what skills you have.

#8 Do not smack your lips, tsk, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.

#9 Always say thank you when I give you something. There is no excuse for not showing appreciation.

#11 Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness. Go out of your way to do something surprisingly kind and generous for someone!
-Isn't it nice when you drop your pencil and someone random picks it up? Or you get your groups notebooks? Show others you care!

#13 When we read together in class, you must follow along. If I call on you to read, you must know exactly where we are and begin reading immediately.

#15 At times throughout the year, I will give rewards for good behavior, academic performances and other acts of praise. If you ever ask  me for a reward, however, it will not be given. It is rude to ask if you are getting something for your good behavior. You should be good and try your best because you are trying to better yourself, not because you are anticipating a reward.

#19 When I assign homework, there is to be no moaning or complaining. This will result in a doubled assignment.
-Many times, more effort and energy is wasted in avoiding something, than is would have taken to complete the task. I assign homework for you to better yourself and your academic career. It will never be too much to handle. Always keep a positive attitude.

#21 You will raise your hand to ask questions, to sharpen your pencil, to get out of your seat, etc...

#49 Stand up for what you believe in.
           - I want you to have the courage to stand up for your beliefs with confidence.

#50 Be positive and enjoy life. Some things just aren't worth getting upset over. Keep everything in perspective and focus on the good in life.
-View the world with tolerance, understanding, and acceptance of all the world has to offer, good and bad.

#52 Accept that you are going to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.

and if you have made it this far down the list, the last rule is:

#55 Be the best person you can be!
-No matter how bad things get, make sure you are always developing into the kind of person you want to be, and the kind of person that others want to be around.
