Back to School Night Agenda

Here is an overview of the agenda that you recieved at Back to School Night. It seemed like a whirlwind, and it was great meeting ya'll. This is the same information, but it is all here in case you lose it or need a refresher!

Today we will be going over classroom procedures and taking a tour of the school. It is a half day of school, and Thursday will be a FULL day, so make sure your child knows how they are getting home.
3:00 Bus Riders
3:03 Walkers
3:07 Car Riders.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to 6th grade.

If you have not set up Remind101, text @koc to 971-216-3717
In Math your child will be learning, in very hands-on ways, we will explore algebra, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, geometry and dabble a little in probability.

In Science we will study ecosystems, populations, cells and physical science. We will also complete a science fair project in the spring; preparation will take place after Holiday Break, so be thinking of a question you want to experiment! It is never too early!

Parent Contact

The best way to contact me is,  kelseykoch@esu3.org .  If you forget there is a spot on benningtonschools.org where you can submit an email to any teacher in the district.

Arrival- Students will be released down the hallway at 8:10. Within the time of the tardy bell, the students need to use the restroom, get their supplies for the day from their lockers, complete lunch count, and in their seat with their warm up, by 8:20. Announcements and the pledge will be at 8:25.

Some procedures in our classroom:
Planner- the students will fill out their planner with assignments and needed supplies within the last 5 minutes of the day.
Homework policy- Students will have homework in math at least 3 times a week. It is important to practice outside the school. The homework should take no more than 20 minutes, and I will keep the blog updated with helpful hints and links if your child seems to be struggling.

I will keep a log of who turns in homework, and if they hand in every assignment during the week they are eligible to win a “Miss Koch Lottery Ticket” where they can earn special privileges in class.

I will pick 3 random problems of each homework to grade, compile those grades, and they will have 1 homework grade per week.

If there are 3 late assignments in a 5 school day time span a detention will be given.

If the student chooses not to complete a homework they will fill out a “I didn’t complete my homework” page to explain why they did not complete it.

Clipboard- the students will carry a clipboard from my class to Mr. Nichols class to record behaviors during the day.

-If they have their names written on it 3 times per day or 5 times in one week it will result in a detention. If their name is on it 2 times, no recess.

-If the students get less than 8 names written on the board in one week they will receive a rewards party.

AR- Students will take a Stars Assessment to see what book level they are able to read. After your child finishes the book they are able to take an online test at school to gain points for incentives.

Discipline Policy, Friday Folders and the Grading Scale can be found on the last page of the curriculum document.

Birthdays – Celebrating birthdays in the classroom is fun for the students. You may send snacks or even creative items (dollar bin items) to school for your child to share with their friends. Please email or let me know when you plan on sending birthday treats to school.

Visitors- When you come to school you must check in and get an ID from the front office.

Milk- Each day the students have a chance to get milk in the morning. If you need to purchase this, you need to stop by the front office.

Dismissal- Please make sure if your child is not going home in the usual way you send a note of email me. If you are picking up your child please have your last name in your window, BIG and bold. 3:00 is buses, 3:03 is walkers, and 3:07 is car riders.

 Any Questions?

Welcome Class of 2019!
