Conversion Quilt and Animal Cell

Tonights assigned homework is making a conversion quilt.

I gave them a 100 grid

The directions are:

-You must color each square 1 color (you may not color half the square yellow and the other half orange)

-You must use at least 5 colors.

At the bottom of the page they should have written:

Color                  Fraction                  Decimal                 Percent

Lets say for example that I colored 20 squares green, I would then make a spot of green under "color" then I would make it into a fraction. There were 100 squares, therefore, 20/100 reduces down to, 1/5

1/5 to a decimal- Ask your student what technique they like to use, NIDO or Cowboy/Horse, please have them explain both to you! Assessment at home! :)

1 divided by 5 is .2 or 2 tenths. We are working saying decimals by their place value.

Then decimal to percent you multiply your decimal by 100. .2x100 is 20%

WOOHOO!

Now do that 4 more times!

Heads up, we will have an assessment in math over Conversions, Integers and Line Plots on SEPTEMBER 5th.

For Science
Ask them about the dance we learned about the animal cells today. If they are at a loss of words, ask them about the Mitochondria, Vacuoles, Endoplasmic Reticulum, and Ribosomes. (They should have a move for each one!)

I left my camera cord at home, so I will post pictures tonight of the happenings in our classroom. Of the 42 students I have I am still missing 4 Student Handbook forms.
